"Silver Knife are a Belgian/Dutch/French black metal entity driven by an aggressive melancholy, and the band made their full-length debut in 2020 with the release of Unyielding/Unseeing via Amor Fati. Immersive and ominously inviting, Unyielding/Unseeing comprised six songs that embodied both a reminiscence and departure from the musical styles the musicians have exhibited through bands like Cult of Erinyes, Hypothermia, Laster, and Nusquama. Truly, Silver Knife made a name for themselves with the album.
Now, on the eve of their first public performance at the esteemed Roadburn Festival on April 23rd, Silver Knife return with a swift-and-satisfying EP titled Ring, recorded during the Unyielding/Unseeing sessions but always intended to be released later as its own stand-alone recording. Comprising two songs that are each nearly seven minutes in length, Ring sounds impossibly vast given its truncated runtime, and therein lies the magic of Silver Knife: the collective open vistas of the imagination when and where we least expect it. Again, their balance between a bittersweet, glimmering atmosphere and sheer force is a thing of wonder; Ring in particular sounds HUGE, and always teetering on the ledge of catharsis vs. collapse."
